Piedmont Healthcare, Atlanta, has promoted Michele Molden to fill the newly created position of executive VP and chief transformation officer. Molden, 55, had been president and CEO of Piedmont Heart Institute since 2007. In her new role, she will focus on corporate development, physician and hospital partnerships and external relationships, according to a news release. In 2009, Molden was named one of Modern Healthcare's Top 25 Women in Healthcare. Sidney Kirschner will replace Molden as the leader of the heart institute. Kirschner, 76, was CEO of Northside Hospital in Atlanta from 1992 to 2004. Sharon O'Keefe was named president of University of Chicago Medical Center, effective Feb. 23. O'Keefe, 58, currently serves as the president of Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Ill., a role she assumed in 2009. In 2005, she served as an appointed examiner for the U.S. Commerce Department's Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards. She also sits on the National Institutes of Health Advisory Board for Clinical Research. O'Keefe succeeds Kenneth Sharigian, who has served as interim president since 2009. O'Keefe's other past leadership positions include COO of Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, and executive VP and COO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. ProHealth Care, Waukesha, Wis., is promoting the CEOs of both of its hospitals to executive jobs at the system level and adding a new innovation officer position. Ed Olson, 62, the president and CEO of Waukesha Memorial Hospital, will become chief external affairs officer for ProHealth Care, overseeing relationships with business partners, legislators and community organizations. He will also help lead community benefit programs and hospital foundations. John Robertstad, 62, the president and CEO of Oconomowoc (Wis.) Memorial Hospital, will become president of the system's hospital division, responsible for 'optimal patient experience and providing cost-effective services' by aligning management, physicians and clinicians, according to a news release. Kathy Scott, 55, is joining ProHealth Care in the position of chief innovation officer, working to standardize care delivery, integrating technology and optimizing workflow. Scott previously worked at Banner Health, Phoenix, as system VP of clinical delivery. The changes follow the recent appointment of former Banner executive Susan Edwards as president and CEO of ProHealth Care, replacing longtime top executive Rexford Titus III in that role. Calvin 'Cal' Knight was named president and CEO of John Muir Health, Walnut Creek, Calif., effective April 4. Knight currently is president and COO of Seattle's Swedish Health Services, the parent of Swedish Medical Center. Knight, whose age was not available, joined Swedish in 1996 as COO and became president in 2008, according to a news release from John Muir. At John Muir, Knight will succeed Ken Anderson, who plans to retire March 31 after 36 years with the system. Troy Thibodeaux has been named COO of Covenant Health System, a system based in Lubbock, Texas. Thibodeaux, 43, most recently served as the VP of operations for Good Shepherd Health System, Longview, Texas. He also spent five years as the VP of operations for East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
